A Proper Haul

A relative gave me money for Christmas and my birthday already so I decided to splurge. I wanted to get as many of my "dream list" polishes as I could because I figured - Hey, they aren't making any more of these and they are just going to get more and more rare.

So, I give you the following horrible pictures:

L-R: Ulta haul - Butter London "All Hail the Queen"; Ulta "Tink-her-bell"; OPI "It's MY Year"

I have worn the Butter London and it was fantastic. It goes on, well, like butter, and the color is gorgeous. I currently have the Ulta on over Sally Hansen Problem Child. More on this next.

Tracy Reese for Sally Hansen Fall 2010 - Sequin Scandal & Problem Child.

I currently have Problem Child on with Ulta Tink-her-bell on over it. I was surprised at how dark it looked on my nail as opposed to the bottle.

Sally Hansen Nail Prisms in Amber Ruby. Wowsa does this look amazing in the bottle. It looks like liquid fire.

Cover Girl Chocolate Mint & Mystic Peacock. I have wanted Chocolate Mint from the very beginning of my interest in nail polish. I saw it on a blog early on and thought it was one of the most beautiful shades I have ever seen. I found it for sale on ebay but it also came with Mystic Peacock. I just thought - ok. When it arrived today, It was sealed, in a package. Go figure.

My first Nubar polishes!!! L-R: Spark, Jewel, Gem & Tiara.

Spark looks nice, a very subtle neutral color. Spark looks fierce. Gem, what can I say? I am a sucker for an awesome purple. And Tiara because what polish can't use a bit of holo boost?

L-R: Purple Rain Glitter, Purple Beach, Chocolate Caramel, Indigo Illusion & Raspberry Truffle.

Holy poop. So much gorgeousness in one place makes my heart flutter. Purple Rain - again, a sucker for an awesome purple. Purple Beach - duochromy purple goodness. Chocolate Caramel - can you see the shade? Melted gold and chocolate. Beautiful. Indigo Illusion - Wowwwww blue purple duochrome. Raspberry Truffle - dark purpley with glitter = Yum.

Nubar 2010. If I can't get Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure, this is the next best thing. And it is wonderful.

Nubar V for Men - Matte finish. For when I've had a manacure on for a day or two and I want to mix it up.

I am sort of on a haul high right now. This is pretty much it for me except for 2 OPI Muppet shades I'm going to ask for for Christmas. The way I look at it, nail polish makes me happy. It makes me feel good to look down at my hands and see a pretty color. It brightens my day. Plus, some of these are just so fierce! And it's nice to get a Christmas present in September ;)

Father's Day 2011

Every Father's Day, a local car club called the Villa Capri Crusers hosts a car show at Nay Aug Park in Scranton. My dad & I have been faithful attendees every year, even though most years the temperature has been in the 90's! This year was no exception but luckily the temperature stayed in the low 80's with a nice breeze.

Every year the show gets bigger and bigger. There were more cars there this year than ever before. There were even some cars my dad & I had never seen, and that's saying alot because we've been going to car shows for years!

I always like to bring along a camera to the shows, but this year I brought 3 :) I had my Nikon D80, my Holga and my Diana (the latter 2 being film cameras. Film? What's that?) I'm sure I was quite a sight lugging around 3 cameras at once. My dad generously offered to hold my camera bag for me, but I kept switching amongst them so I decided to keep the bag.

I've posted some of the shots I took with the Nikon here. When I get the rolls of film developed, I'll be sure to post some of them as well.

I'll leave you with a picture of my dream car - A 1949 Mercury. If I ever win the lottery, this is one of the first things I'm getting :)

Memorial Day weekend 2011

It’s that time of year again… St. Ubaldo Day!

Chances are that if you’re not from around these parts or from Gubbio, Italy, you probably aren’t familiar with this celebration. I’ve linked to the wiki article up above, but in short, it is a commemoration of St. Ubaldo that is celebrated by a town-wide party and Race of the Saints. It takes place every Memorial Day weekend, and it’s finally here!

Tonight is the Fireman’s Parade and tomorrow is Race Day. I’ve been looking forward to this three day weekend for quite some time. I really need a few days off when I can just relax. Of course, a trip to the beer tent doesn't hurt either!

My first nail pic! Yay!

This is China Glaze For Audrey (which a beautiful, creamy, robin's egg blue) with OPI's Silver Shatter and a top coat of Seche Vite. I know some people say not to use a top coat over crackle, but I like it because I think it separates the cracks a bit and makes them bigger, which I like. Plus it helps make the polish last on my nails because I am ruff on them.

My Pirates "haul"

L-R: Stranger Tides, Skull & Glossbones, Silver Shatter

I know I'm late, and I know it's not a huge haul, but I finally got 2 of the 3 shades I had wanted. They didn't have Mermaid's Tears but that's ok because I got the silver shatter instead :)

They are so gorgeous in person! I can't wait to try them out!

Home Improvement

Sean & I decided to tear down the ugly wallpaper in the kitchen and paint the walls and cabinets and remodel the room. It started out innocently enough on March 3rd, and we're still going.

The walls have been stripped, cleaned and are painted. The ceiling is painted. A lot of the casings & mouldings are up. The cabinets are not painted nor have we settled on a granite for the countertop. That's the big issue. We have really having trouble agreeing on a granite. Sean leans more towards a dark while I am more on the light side.

We have another trip to the yard on Friday. Wish us luck.

New obsession

Anyone who knows me in real life knows that I tend to get hooked on something, obsessed really, for a few months and then I lose interest. I'll get all gung ho and buy all this stuff for the new hobby and go crazy and then just... stop. I start a billion new projects and never finish them (remember crochet anyone?)

My latest obsession is nail art. I've always liked nail polish and currently, I have 32 Zoya polishes which I thought was crazy.

I've started following a great blog -
http://mysimplelittlepleasures.blogspot.com
and she has 1139 bottles of polish O_o Which seems like a lot at first, but if I add up crochet, knitting, books, lipgloss, jewelry making, random other crafting, BPAL, Bath & Body Works, MAC, etc... It would equal that. Mine are just spread out. And I've learned that nail polish *never* goes bad, you can always bring it back. So really, it's an investment. Plus, painting your nails is always "in".

So I'm slowly learning about polishes and embellishments and when I get some manis that I like, I'll be posting pictures. I'm giving you all fair warning ;)

About Peyton

I know I am not very good at keeping up with this. I will try to be better at it.

Since I have last posted, we found out more information about Peyton.

She was around 6 months when we adopted her. Her mom is a Sheltie and her dad was a whippet. The type of dog she is is called a "Lurcher" and she is a cross between a "Sighthound" (whippet) and Sheltie. Sighhounds are hounds that primarily hunt by speed and sight, instead of by scent and endurance as scent hounds do.

It was so nice to find out about her history :)
